Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the answers to some of the most asked questions received by Triple J Tours.
Why are you called Triple J Tours?
Triple J Tours was set up by Jeff and Jenny Hayley and Jenny’s brother Jamie back in May, 1988. Triple J Tours is using the first letter of the three business partner names. Today Triple J Tours has two Directors – Jeff Hayley and Grant Lodge.
Does your tour go on Lake Argyle?
Technically, no. Our touring options can take you by coach to or from Lake Argyle. As part of this coach tour, you will go from Kununurra to Lake Argyle through “Durack Country”. A stop is included at the Argyle Downs Homestead Museum (approx. 20 mins) before we drive you past the Argyle township and across the Ord Top Dam wall (or this is done in reverse depending on your tour selection).
Once across the Wall, we stop at the lookout area where you can see a small expanse of Lake Argyle as well as look at the incredible view downstream towards Kununurra. Your cruise does not go onto Lake Argyle however, we have cruise options that we do in conjunction with Lake Argyle Tours – the J2LA which is our lunch tour cruise from Kununurra to the Ord Top Dam combined with the Lake Argyle Sunset Tour or the J3LA which is the Lake Argyle Tours lunch cruise combined with our cruise from the Ord Top Dam to Kununurra with sunset as we near Kununurra.
How long is the river (Lake Kununurra)?
55 kms from the Diversion Dam (Kununurra) to Ord Top Dam (Lake Argyle.
How fast do your boats go?
Our cruising speed is normally between 55-65km per hour. One of our vessels is powered by 3 x 350Hp Yamaha outboards, one has 2 x 350Hp outboards and our smaller vessel has 2 x 225Hp outboard motors.
How long have you been operating?
Triple J Tours commenced in May, 1988 – celebrating 30 years in 2018! Yay to us!
Can you pick us up for our tour?
Yes. We offer pick ups from all Kununurra backpacker, hotel, apartment and caravan park accommodation. We will also pick up guests from the Kununurra Visitor Centre. We will also return you to your accommodation at the end of your tour.
Can you pick us up from a private address for our tour?
Unfortunately not. Please advise the nearest Kununurra accommodation option (as listed in the above answer) to you or alternatively, we can make arrangements for you to park at our office.
Do you sell any merchandise?
Yes. We have Triple J Tours stubby holders available for $5 each and we also have our high quality air cool shirts for sale for $45 each. These shirts are the same as are worn by our Skippers so feel free to check them out whilst on tour (our shirts that is, not our Skipper – although, he will be wearing the shirt in question!). Call the office if you’d like to purchase these items or you can purchase when booking online for our J2, J3 or J4 cruises.
How many crocodiles might we see on tour?
That’s a tough question …. nature is a funny thing and she never tells us what the numbers will be like on any given day …
Can we swim on your tour?
Unfortunately there is not time for a swim – particularly from March to September. Tours are adjusted slightly during October, November & December where a swim may be possible but you will be advised of this when booking.
Are your lunches, cakes and scones home-made?
Yes they are. We have our own commercial kitchen on-site and our lunches and afternoon teas are all made fresh every day.
Do you cater for dietary requirements?
We can do – please make sure you advise us at the time of booking and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Are there toilets on your boats?
Yes. Each of our boats has an on-board toilet. Our riverside camps where we stop for morning and afternoon teas and lunches also have eco-friendly toilets available for you to use.
